Description

Hind: The Postage Stamp Collection of the late Arthur Hind of Utica, NY, Sale No. 1, United States including the Confederate States, Catalogue, Charles J. Phillips and William C. Kenneth, Auctioneer Walter S. Scott, Waldorf Astoria Hotel, New York, November 20-24, 1933, catalogue and plates completely bound in splendid half-leather, the binding edges slightly bumped in places, minor signs of age and wear, still in good condition. Auction of the USA part of the legendary Hind collection, 109 pages, 1653 lots, with a complete set of 49 plates with 726 illustrations, with the results list in COPY. Due to the poor results, further auctions were cancelled, there was a worldwide economic depression, the catalogues did not even reach Germany due to a lack of foreign currency, so they are practically non-existent here. The vast majority of the Hind collection was auctioned by Harmers in London in 1935. It includes a large number of rare postmaster issues of the Confederate States with numerous letters. #70818
